Get a Precision Fit for Every Lift

A prong belt is your go-to tool for heavy compound lifts that demand a high level of stability, control, and protection through your core and lower back. By providing a bracing surface 360 degrees around your torso, a prong belt allows you to increase your intra-abdominal pressure and achieve heavier lifts. Depending on your workout, a prong belt provides support in a variety of different ways:

  • Squats: Helps maintain a rigid torso and upright posture throughout the lift
  • Deadlifts: Reinforces spinal alignment, provides a wide and secure bracing surface
  • Overhead Presses: Keeps your midsection tight for increased balance and pushing power
  • Bent-Over Rows: Maximizes pulling power by supporting your lower back

FAQs – Prong Buckle Lifting Belts

How do I break in a leather weight lifting belt?

Leather belts soften and mold to your body over time with regular use. You can help speed up the breaking-in process by rolling the belt gently before your first few sessions and wearing it regularly.

Are these belts competition approved?

The Gymreapers 10mm single prong belt is IPF approved for use in powerlifting competitions.

I’ve never worn a gym belt before—how do I get started?

If you’re brand new to wearing a lifting belt, we recommend wearing it during warm-ups for a while to practice bracing, moving with the belt, and maintaining good form. Once you feel comfortable, you can graduate to using a belt on your heavier lifts.

How tight should my powerlifting belt be?

You should be able to fit two finders inside the belt with some resistance. Your lifting belt should be snug enough to help you feel supported, but should allow you to breathe and brace comfortably without pain or completely restricting your range of motion. If you need more help, check out our video on How to Size and Wear a 7mm Lifting Belt.

Should I choose a single or a double prong lifting belt?

Both offer excellent support. The 1-prong version allows quicker adjustments, while the 2-prong offers slightly more security and more even pressure distribution. It all comes down to personal preference and needs.

Do I still need to watch my form if I’m wearing a belt?

Yes, a belt is not a replacement for proper form.

What is the difference between the 6mm, 7mm, and 7mm weightlifting belts?

The 6mm belt offers more flexibility and comfort for general training. The standard 7mm double prong gym belt is suede-lined for comfort, while the 7mm weightlifting belt delivers the same level of performance with a natural leather feel (no suede liner).

Old School Grit. Modern Day Strength.

Gymreapers Prong Belts bring classic strength and modern performance together. Designed for lifters who demand reliable support while they push past their limits, day after day, these belts offer lasting support for every lift.
